Chilean startup Instacrops closes deal with global giant, BASF

In the world of modern entrepreneurship, synergy and partnership between companies is often key to economic development. For this reason, BASF and Instacrops decided to join forces to enhance their value offer, providing artificial intelligence in the management of agricultural solutions.

BASF -founded in Germany in 1865-, is one of the main agrochemical companies worldwide, with a focus on the agricultural industry, where they are widely positioned, leading the development of solutions that deliver higher quality and productivity to the fields, hand in hand with supporting and leading sustainable agriculture.

“For BASF it is very important to be connected with technology and with startups, since we understand that it is a way to innovate quickly, adding value to our customers. For this reason, Instacrops was chosen since we strongly believe that artificial intelligence and the use of digital tools will be the key to solidifying the sustainability of the industry”, says Claudio Betanzo, Manager of Agricultural Solutions at BASF Chile.

Likewise, Mario Bustamante, CEO and co-founder of Instacrops, adds that this alliance is intended to promote a new business model for the so-called Andean region – Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia-, with a focus on technology and sustainability.

“We want to change the way agriculture is done, change the paradigms. Through this alliance with BASF, an international company that has a lot of experience in research, and that develops high-tech products and is a leader in the market, we want to change the way farmers integrate technology in the fields," explains Bustamante. .

Advantages

The alliance goes beyond the sale of products or services. "Considering Instacrops' expertise as an AgTech startup, the idea is to soak up BASF's worldwide recognition to spread technological development in agriculture, an adaptation that is slower than one would like," explains the founder of Instacrops.

“Although there is a change in the administration of the fields by younger people, there is still resistance when it comes to adopting technologies. This process is slow, but our job is to push that fence of technological inclusion”, adds the Instacrops executive.

future of agriculture

"Chile was defined as an agri-food power several years ago and these technologies will probably have a greater impact on those crops that require technological support, such as exports, where final consumers are very demanding with the chemical load of food," says the BASF executive "We are approaching the implementation stage of 3 commercial products so that this becomes a desirable service for the producer and that, occupying our distribution network, reaches the diversity of clients that exist in the country", he concludes BASF Chile executive.

“Part of these solutions has a direct environmental impact, since it allows the development of an agriculture that requires less use of resources. This itself has a value in the economic development of the farmer, which allows this growth to be sustainable, says Bustamante.
