A few weeks ago, Google announced that it will soon drop support for Jelly Bean in Google Play Services. Now, it has communicated that, in addition, it will not allow the login with Google accounts on devices that still have Android 2.3.7 or lower installed.

The date set for it is September 27. From that day on, to continue using applications like YouTube or Gmail, you will have to update to Android 3 Honeycomb (whenever possible, of course). But do not panic, the percentage of phones and tablets that still have previous versions of the operating system is currently very small.

We will always have the mobile browser

9to5Google has been the one who has advanced it: Google is sending an email to all those users with active devices with Android 2.3.7 and lower versions. In that email, he warns them that he will soon stop allowing logging into their account in Google apps. And set a date for it: next September 27.

Google no permitirá iniciar sesión en móviles con versiones antiguas de Android a partir de septiembre

According to the company, this decision is intended to "help protect the security of your account", so that, when trying to log in, it will result in a "username or password error".

However, Google clarifies that the end of support will affect both system and application login (as well as data synchronization), but you can continue to use YouTube, Google Search, Gmail, Drive, etc. through the mobile web browser.

Let's remember that version 2.3.7 was released in September 2011, just 10 years ago. This means that all devices running Android 1.0, 1.1 (no name), 1.5 Cupcake, 1.6 Donut, 2.0 Eclair, 2.2 Froyo, and 2.3 Gingerbread will need to upgrade to Android 3.0 Honeycomb or higher whenever possible.
