The mayor of the Concello de Láncara investigated for an alleged usurpation of identity to the director of a bank branch accepted this Saturday her resignation as a member of the socialist group. After knowing the facts, which came to light this very day, it was Mayor Darío Piñeiro who asked Begoña López to resign. It will take place in the next few days, although the socialist will keep the act of councilor until the investigation is resolved because the local government "respects at all times or right to the presumption of innocence," as the councilor assured.
The Court of First Instance and Instruction Number 1 of Sarria summoned the councilor to testify in the framework of an investigation for an alleged usurpation of the identity of the director of a branch whose purpose would be to carry out a false transaction to obtain 10,000 euros. Within this investigation, the possible use of the SIM card of a mobile line contracted by the City Council to receive suggestions or complaints is studied. The telephone in which the card was used was "guarded" by Begoña López, as she herself acknowledged. A few weeks ago, it stopped working and the logo of the same bank that reported the alleged identity theft appeared. The mayor and the mayor explained that the SIM card had been "lost", for which the councilor filed a complaint with the Civil Guard. Piñeiro declared this Saturday that it is the only investigation that he is aware of and that he does not have "data or information" related to an alleged usurpation of identity because "it is something strictly personal from the concelleira." The socialist wanted to emphasize that the investigation does not affect in any way the economic account of the Council.

Complaint from a construction company
The mayor reported that there is not only the complaint from the bank but also another from a construction company, for which the councilor is also being investigated. Begoña López had already confirmed this complaint on Friday, emphasizing that they were personal matters for her. To the surprise of the alderman, on Friday night he was told by a bricklayer from the construction company that on Monday he had to go to court as a witness. And this Saturday morning, when he spoke with the councilor to ask for her resignation, the mayor also told him. “Eu did not know anything nor did they receive any notification of the judgement, but of course I will go because I want everything to be clarified beforehand,” she declared.
Piñeiro insisted that, despite the fact that "it is a strictly personal matter", the resignation of Begoña López is the most "prudent and responsible". He also recalled that "the City Council of Lancara acts and will continue to act in this matter with total clarity and transparency, as it has been demonstrated or denounced the two feitos that are on record at no time relative to the loss of a SIM card in a telephone contracted by the City Council." In addition, he announced that at the beginning of next week he will convene an extraordinary plenary session to clarify what happened with the rest of the corporation, which will be broadcast live to all residents.
