Professional confessions of...Published on 01/28/2022 at 19:18A fan of mountain and road biking in equal parts, Eduardo Azanza (Pamplona, March 9, 1976) is the CEO of dasNano and Veridas, two companies world leaders in artificial intelligence solutions, with applications such as biometric identification. Together with Estaban Morras, who acts as president, both have given impetus to a sector in their land that is already changing the rules of the business game and promises to become a powerful source of wealth and employment. In this sense, he warns that Navarra, whose economy depends a lot on a car sector in low hours, is in the position of being a spectator or protagonist of a digital revolution that will not wait for anyone. Despite acknowledging that he has experienced many failures and disappointments, he is optimistic and believes that it is better to look forward.
with the pandemic
What has changed in your company? The normality of remote relationships has helped us to be able to grow very quickly in markets where it would have cost us more to reach them due to the difficulty of physical access, and we have created teams and hired excellent professionals in different parts of the world without having had direct contact with them before. We have lost some personal touch, but it allows us to think more globally. Just before the pandemic we had already launched the possibility of teleworking, and after the pandemic, it will stay forever, enhanced and reinforced. The pending task remains ……replace a physical hug with a virtual one. The depth of face-to-face human relationships is infinitely more powerful than any virtual environment. We have missed an opportunity to… I am an optimist by nature and I think we have not missed the opportunities that we must take advantage of in the form of the aid that is coming from Europe to transform society. The tragedy of the pandemic has also allowed developments such as new-generation vaccines that, although controversial, I believe will allow the cure of many diseases that plagued us before. What we have lost are many people who, without the pandemic, would not have gone. I have missed that all the public powers had treated us a little more like adults, with information, transparency and sincerity. Which of the great transformations that are underway (ecological, mobility, digital...) worries you the most? I tend to worry about things that we can fix and work on. I believe that the digital transformation is the one that is having and will have the most impact on the society we live in. We must think about whether Navarra is going to be a spectator or the protagonist of it. We have an enormous opportunity to transform our labor market, creating a workforce prepared to create the most valuable intangible asset created by man in the last century, which is the software, and that has the virtue of being able to be generated from “nothing”: only with a trained head and a computer. The power of social change that this has is immense, especially when compared to any other industrial or technological revolution, which required enormous material investments and, therefore, prevented its deployment in many parts of the world. How are they working to change from your organization? Initiatives that they plan to launch. We are creating products and solutions so that this digital transformation is safe and reliable, giving certainty about the real identity of people and eliminating passwords and keys forever. In parallel to our activity as a company and convinced of the change that it means for our environment, we have launched two initiatives aligned with transforming our work fabric. On the one hand, awakening vocations through the Luzia Foundation, in which we want our young people to understand how artificial intelligence works, what opportunities it offers and the consume with a critical spirit, from the knowledge of it. And on the other hand, together with the Navarra Employment Service we are going to launch the first program for digital bricklayers aimed at people without training or prior knowledge in software creation, so that through a 600-hour training program they can be perfectly employable, and from there develop a professional career in the world of technology. The Navarrese company
Main strength and main weakness of the Navarrese company. Its professionals. I have been lucky enough to work for thirteen years in renewable energy and another ten in the digital world. The level of professionalism, knowledge and honesty of the Navarran professional is at the level of the best in the world. The main weakness of the Navarran company at this time is its high dependence on the automobile sector. This, in addition, is undergoing a very complex moment: apart from the conjunctural problems of the supply chain, it is facing a profound change in the patterns of consumption, mobility and electrification that has the industry somewhat confused. The other big problem it is that the decision centers of many Navarrese companies are too far away and, when there are problems, the distant subsidiaries suffer a lot. How has the sector in which you work evolved since you started? When we started there were very few players in our sector. Hundreds of competitors have appeared in the world, which is a good sign in the sense that there is an important need to cover. On a technological level, the changes are enormous. From the time we started until now, our systems are fifty times more accurate, which has allowed us to be among the top three worldwide in voice and facial biometrics. Currently, as it matures, consolidation movements are taking place that will accelerate in the next three years and will leave a more concentrated industry, with fewer players and with more strength, as happens in any new sector in the process of maturing. What challenges do you face in the short term and what risks should you take? Related to the above, to have the capacity to grow globally. Internally I usually say, colloquially, that our company is going to the stock market... or garbage. With this I want to highlight that, in the world of digital technology with its own product, either you become a global standard or you risk disappearing. We are betting on playing in the global Champions to provide and safeguard real identity, and live in a world without keys or passwords, where you are recognized for being you, safely and voluntarily. What would you change if it were in your hands? From the Administration, there are two low-cost actions with tremendous impact: the commitment to the transformation of society from the formation so that our country is a focus of attraction and traction in the digital world. On the other hand, it should be promoted that companies Spanish had larger sizes. For this, some thresholds of administrative and bureaucratic obstacles should be raised. That way they would be more competitive in world markets and we could have more global leaders here, which in the end will leave more taxes and jobs in our land. How to remove a virus using CMD http://t.co/5KmmOqnopC http://t.co/on0xciPr7i

In first person
How and in what has the pandemic changed you (personally and in your way of working)? Like all of us who travel a lot, the pandemic has allowed us to spend more time with our loved ones, with family and at work .The decision you are most proud of and why.The creation of das-Nano and Veridas. Having the opportunity to generate a world-class workplace in your land and for the best professionals to want to join the project is a tremendous illusion. The failure or disappointment from which you have learned the most over the years. Have you ever thought about quitting? Quitting? Never! There have been many failures and disappointments, from which you learn a lot, but I scratch my memory and I don't have any stuck. We are more looking to the future than to the past. That's good for forgetting disappointments, but bad since we don't spend much time celebrating successes either. Did you have (or do you have) any role models? Personally, my parents, who have always instilled in me the value of work and doing things things straight. Professionally, my partner, Esteban Morrás, who inspired me and has supported me to lead a company that has a global impact from our land. The advice that helped you the most in your career and the one that you would now give to younger people. is the only way to achieve goals in life, and that no one regrets being brave. Is there a recruit you would like to have in your company? We have a staff of 150 professionals, full of Messis and Chymis, very talented people and with a lot of claw, so we don't miss anyone in particular. What was the most common when you started working? Was it difficult for you to adapt to the changes? What support did you have? When I started working in June 1999 developing our wind technology from scratch, in what is now Acciona Windpower-Nordex, the first few months we exchanged plans and messages with suppliers by fax. We had a single computer connected to the internet and email was used alternately. Two months after starting to work, the use of the Internet and its associated tools has already spread to all workers. Since I was a child, I have always liked technology and it is not difficult for me to adapt to changes. new technologies in your work? Anyone who resists? Which one would you eliminate if you could? New technologies are the center of our work, so we must be up to date with them. I would like to have the strength to be more disconnected from work tools. What do you think about social networks? Do you use them? If so, which one is your favourite? They are a huge loudspeaker, for good and for bad. I am not a user of social networks such as Facebook, Instagram or Tiktok, but it would not occur to me to ban them. I think it is important that their advantages and disadvantages, biases, are known and consumed, like everything in life, in moderation. For professional reasons, I use Linkedin, which is an excellent tool to meet companies and people from all over the world.Leisure
Which place in Navarra do you prefer for your free time and why? I am a mountain and road cyclist and any place in Navarra is a luxury for practicing both disciplines. We have a paradise on our doorstep. I really like the area of Eugi (Eremua), Ulzama, Urkiaga, Artesiaga or lesser-known places like Cáseda or the Peralta, Falces and Funes area. who already thinks about going back. I really like getting to know cultures that are very different from ours. You discover that you are nothing important. I would like to visit Japan and other Asian countries such as Vietnam or Thailand. His favorite food. A good stew washed down with a good Navarran wine. And Roncal cheese to finish the wine.
