If you only have a few seconds, read these lines:

1- Can the vaccines currently used in Argentina generate COVID-19 or positive results in the PCR?

No. All the vaccines applied in the country lack the replicative capacity of the virus, so they do not generate any risk of developing the disease. In the case of presenting symptoms compatible with COVID-19 with a positive PCR while being vaccinated, there are multiple possibilities (in decreasing order of probability):

A- People who were inadvertently vaccinated during the incubation period of the disease.

B- People who were infected a few days after vaccination, since the response of the immune system takes up to 28 days and, although its protection against the disease is known, its possible protective effect on infection is still unknown.

C- People who got sick despite the protective effect of the vaccine, since none offers 100% protection.

2- Can the vaccine cause death if it is received during the incubation period of the disease?

There is no scientific evidence to indicate that being vaccinated while in the incubation period of the disease can cause serious complications or death. The recommendation of the Ministry of Health of the Nation is to wait for the medical discharge of COVID-19 prior to immunization so as not to put health personnel at risk.

3- If I am vaccinated against COVID-19 and show symptoms, up to how many days can I attribute it to the vaccine?

According to the latest Vaccine Safety Surveillance Report from the National Ministry of Health, 99% of adverse events from COVID-19 vaccines are mild and moderate, and usually occur within 48 hours of receiving the vaccine. your application.

4- I had COVID-19 and was discharged, how many days should I wait to get vaccinated?

It is advisable to wait between 3 and 6 months after discharge from the clinic to apply the first dose of the vaccine. The Ministry of Health recommends postponing the application of the first dose of the vaccine in those who have recovered from COVID-19, given that the number of cases of documented reinfection is very low in the 6 months after diagnosis.

5- Why was it decided to defer the second dose of the vaccines?

The recommended intervals on all vaccines are minimums, not maximums. The greatest efficacy is achieved with the first dose, and the second dose increases the efficacy a little but, above all, allows it to be maintained for longer. Worldwide, vaccination with one dose, while offering less protection than 2 doses, has been shown to provide very high protection against severe disease, hospitalization, and death.

For this reason, and given the global shortage of vaccines, the Ministry of Health decided to prioritize the application of the largest possible number of first doses among the population at risk (over 60 years of age), deferring the application of the second dose, since scientific studies (see here and here) indicate that this delay would not significantly affect efficacy, nor does it pose any health risk.

6- What is the efficacy with a single dose?

For the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca, one of the 2 available in our country, studies show that the efficacy of the vaccine is greater when the interval between doses is longer. When receiving it 14 days after the first, the efficacy was 63% against symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection, but when receiving it at 12 weeks or more, it rises to 82%.

A preliminary study by Conicet researchers on the immune response induced by the Sputnik V vaccine indicates that 94% showed the presence of specific antibodies after receiving a single dose. In the case of Sinopharm, on the other hand, there is not enough information to determine the efficacy of a single dose, but the experience in other countries and in studies that are beginning to be carried out in Argentina show that sufficient levels of immunity are reached with the first dose. .

7- I gave myself the first dose of Covishield, can I give myself the second dose with a different vaccine?

Both the AstraZeneca and Covishield vaccines correspond to the same vaccine (ChAdOx1-S), but from different manufacturing laboratories. Therefore, in this situation, it would not be a matter of “product interchangeability” but of producers, which allows them to be combined in their use. This means that if I get the first dose of Covishield (AstraZeneca produced in India) I can get the second with the AstraZeneca vaccine produced elsewhere.

8- Can I drink alcohol if I receive the Sputnik V vaccine?

Yes, despite the misinformation that circulates, as long as it is moderate there is no contraindication to drinking alcohol after receiving the Sputnik V vaccine or any other vaccine. A reasonable consumption of alcohol does not reduce the immune response to vaccines.

9- Do I have to isolate myself if I am a close contact of a confirmed case even if I already have 2 doses of the vaccine?

Yes, all those people who meet the definition of "close contact" must comply with the isolation and prevention measures according to the period established for the general population, regardless of their vaccination status against COVID-19, as explained by the Ministry of Health of the Nation.

The authorized vaccines have shown adequate safety and efficacy in the prevention of symptomatic forms. However, the available evidence on the impact of vaccination on the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 is insufficient to date. Therefore, all quarantine and prevention measures must be continued.

10- What time should pass between the COVID-19 and the flu vaccine?

From the National Immunization Commission (Conain) it is recommended to respect a minimum interval of 14 days between the application of the flu vaccine and the vaccines against the coronavirus. The flu vaccine is available free of charge for health personnel, people over 65 years of age, pregnant and postpartum women, girls and boys from 6 to 24 months, and people from 2 to 64 years of age with risk conditions such as obesity, diabetes, respiratory diseases , heart diseases, congenital or acquired immunodeficiencies, oncohaematological patients, transplant patients or people with chronic kidney failure on dialysis.

11- Can I get vaccinated with the flu and pneumonia vaccine between the 2 doses of COVID-19 or do I have to wait to get the 2 doses?

As long as at least 14 days have passed, you can get vaccinated against the flu and pneumonia after receiving the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

12- Should I wait for the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and then give myself other vaccines?

No, if you have an indication for the flu vaccine, it is important that you get vaccinated.

13- What happens if I received the flu vaccine and before 14 days they give me an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine?

The recommendation is that at least 14 days pass between any vaccine and the COVID-19 one, so you should reschedule your shift.

14- In an emergency, if I received the COVID-19 vaccine, can I apply the tetanus vaccine? And the rabies?

Yes, although it is always convenient that there is a minimum interval of 14 days between the COVID-19 vaccine and any other vaccine.

15- I did an antibody test after receiving the vaccine and I don't have it, does that mean that the vaccine had no effect?

No, the immunity generated by the vaccine does not depend only on antibodies. There is cellular immunity that cannot be measured as easily as antibodies. Post-vaccination antibody testing is not recommended, except in the context of an epidemiological study.

16- I took the COVID-19 vaccine and I did not have any side effects, does that mean that the vaccine is not working?

There is no scientific evidence that someone with more obvious side effects from the vaccine is later better protected against COVID-19. The absence of side effects does not mean that the vaccine does not work. No one really knows why some people have a lot of side effects and others have none. What we do know is that young people have a stronger immune response to vaccines than older people, whose immune systems weaken with age.

17- What is the relationship between thrombosis and COVID-19 vaccines?

Some vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 (the AstraZeneca vaccine that is currently applied in the country and the Janssen vaccine that, at the moment, is not available in Argentina) have been associated with very rare cases of thrombi (clots) blood cells and decreased platelets (thrombocytopenia). These pictures were mainly described in women under 60 years of age and after 2 weeks of vaccination on average.

However, the risk of this happening is extremely low (0.0004% with the AstraZeneca vaccine and 0.0008% with the Janssen vaccine) and much lower than the risk of thrombosis associated with the use of oral contraceptives (0. 05%), a plane trip (0.1%) or COVID-19 infection (7.8-23%), according to data from the Ministry of Health.

In this way, the benefits of vaccination against the coronavirus outweigh any risk of side effects, and this was announced by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the AstraZeneca and Janssen vaccine.

In Argentina, based on current evidence, the National Vaccine Safety Commission (Conaseva) recommended continuing with the application of the AstraZeneca/Covishield vaccine. "Like any drug, vaccines are not exempt from adverse effects, however, the benefit is greater than the risk," Conaseva concluded.

18- Can I get vaccinated if I have a history of thrombosis?

Yes. Although people with a history of thrombosis are at increased risk of re-thrombosis, the AstraZeneca vaccine currently used in the country has not been shown to have an effect in this regard. The cases described are not related to a history of thrombosis. The vaccine effectively prevents severe COVID-19, which does carry a significant risk of developing thrombosis. For these 2 reasons, the vaccine is highly recommended, as explained by Conaseva.

19- If I have a history of stroke, can I get vaccinated?

Yes, you can get vaccinated. So far, no relationship has been found between a history of having suffered a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) and the occurrence of thrombosis events after COVID-19 vaccination.

20- Can I get vaccinated if I am anticoagulated?

Yes, anticoagulant treatment is not a contraindication for COVID-19 vaccination. You just have to notify the person who gives you the injection beforehand, since it is recommended to administer the vaccine with a fine needle and to press continuously and firmly on the injection site for at least 3 minutes to avoid the appearance of a bruise.

Here you will find the first 20 questions and answers about vaccination that we publish.

May 30, 2021 at 11:54 pm

Good evening, excellent information assigned to their citizens, there are countries that do not have this. I would like to leave you information about the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, in which the VAERS records show cases of deaths due to the Vaccine, of course, before the suspension (approx. 11 days). If they could verify it, because in some media "Thrombosis" in women was reported as the most serious. Best regards

What is food poisoning and how can we avoid it in summer? The high temperatures of summer can be ideal for enjoying a picnic in the park or on the beach. But the warmth is also tempting for many harmful microorganisms that, under these conditions, can easily develop in food. On January 12, the National Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Products […]
