Talking to the assistant without having to say "OK Google" is closer than ever

It is not the first time that we have told you about this functionality for the Google assistant, what happens is that each time we have it so close. So much so that this time it has already been seen on Google phones with the latest version of Android 12. And it is that if something bothers us about using voice assistants, it is having to continually repeat the words that invoke it. In this case, “OK Google” and that can be quite annoying, especially if we want to chain different consecutive commands to the speaker. It is finally starting to work on some models, which gives us an idea of how this new method works.

An easier way to invoke the wizard

And it is that the “quick phrases” come to the rescue. At least that's what these new phrases are called that will allow us to have precisely that, a way of carrying out actions without having to beat around the bush and as if we were speaking to a person and not to an assistant. The version 12.39.17.29 of Android 12 is the one that is introducing this new adjustment that allows using the Google assistant in a much simpler and more direct way. It's not exactly the functionality we envisioned, but it's a good start to getting there. In this case, XDA has discovered that by activating the "quick phrases" in the operating system it is possible to do some very basic tasks without saying "OK Google"

In this case, they have discovered that having these functions active, when we receive a call we can do two things, say “answer” when there is an incoming call, or say, for example, “stop” when it is sounding an alarm that we have programmed. This way there is no need to say OK Google, and we can easily close the actions. As we said, although it is not the solution that we expected without having to invoke the assistant, it is a new approach that can mean the beginning of a much easier use of the Google assistant. When this function is activated, the assistant will suggest these answers when it is possible to do them, as long as we have not used them before.

Speak to the assistant without saying

These short phrases therefore make using the Google Assistant much easier. It is clear that we would like little by little not to have to say OK Google every time we give an order to the assistant, but the reality is that there is still a long way to go before we can use these types of short phrases, since for this It would be necessary to advance a lot in artificial intelligence. Because, although the speaker listens to us continuously to know if we invoke him, he cannot know if we are talking to him without saying those words. So for now we have to be content with this halfway solution, which on the other hand is appreciated. At the moment it is only on the Google Pixel, but hopefully it will reach all Android phones soon.
