More than 80 people attended the Seminar on Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture organized by the Institute of Plant Production and Health (IPSV) and the Master in Plant Sciences of the Universidad Austral de Chile, held in a hybrid manner on Wednesday 15 from December.
At the opportunity, aspects of government policy on this matter were discussed, the use of predictive models in agriculture, analysis of cases focused on the production of fruit trees and actions to promote technology transfer from universities to the regional productive environment.
The activity was framed within the activities of the postgraduate course taught by the IPSV, together with Professor Luis Vidal. In this context, the Director of the IPSV, Dr. Iván Maureira, explained that "the central idea of the seminar was to promote a space for discussion to face the challenges generated by the use of artificial intelligence (AI) among the actors in the agri-food field of the region, linked to the educational and public space”.
For his part, the Director of the Master's in Plant Sciences, Dr. Esteban Basoalto, stressed that "as human beings we generate about 1.7 megabits of information per second and, in this sense, one of the problems is the capacity for analysis, quickly and effectively, to take advantage of it and apply it to specific contexts. Hence the importance of generating these spaces for discussion”.
